About Flux IV

Flux IV is a project space by Flux Factory, presenting an annual season of free, multidisciplinary exhibitions and public programs.

The season is developed through an annual open call for proposals, curatorial pitches from Flux’s collective of artists-in-residence and alumni, and partnerships with residency institutions. At its core are solo and group exhibitions drawn from a network of over 500 alumni and current residents. Each month, Flux IV also serves as a gathering space for pop-up projects, artistic research, temporary workspace, discursive programs, learnshops, screenings, concerts, and yet-to-be-realized experimental formats by and for artists. The program prioritizes projects that are mission-aligned and culturally responsive, supporting emerging artists of all ages through resource- and skill-sharing, peer education, collectivity, and collaboration.

Flux IV is committed to artistic experimentation and culturally responsive programming. Projects that study, grow roots, and help deepen relationships in Hunter’s Point and the Newtown Creek watershed, where Flux IV is situated, are encouraged in our annual call for projects. To ensure you don’t miss Flux IV’s public season, sign up for Flux Factory’s Mailing List, which includes Flux IV announcements and opportunities.

Building History

Founded in 1994, Flux Factory’s artist-in-residency has been headquartered at 39-31 29th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101 since 2009. In November 2021, the organization purchased the 29th Street building along with Flux IV on 2nd Street, marking its first time owning its space. Designed by architects Interval Projects with Studio Ghosh, Flux IV is the fourth building Flux Factory has operated in its 30+ year history and is the only venue for its public exhibitions and events. After a handful of pilot programs, Flux IV launched its first season in 2025.
