The Pacifist Library is a comfortable place, a lounge for reading and meeting and exchanging radical ideas. The mobile structure will work its way around New York City and offer a peaceful refuge for the dissemination of pacifist ideas. The structure was built with transportability and economy in mind. The books that make up The Pacifist Library come either from donations or from self-printing of important texts.
The project will commence in the Flux Factory gallery and then travel around the city, every few days changing locations and parking itself on the public space in front of choice spots in the city. At each stop, the library will be open to an active dialogue. Curandi & Katz invite passers-by to enter the library, and interact with residents in the area. The goal of each stop is to compile and self-publish a short pamphlet reflecting the experiences, views and potentials for social change as seen by the community.
This project is part of the group exhibition, Public Trust and is supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture.
