Alison Nguyen
Alison Nguyen is a New York-based artist working in film, video, photography, and installation. She uses these forms to raise questions about the circulation of images and the cultural surrounding. Often integrating appropriated footage from mass media, Nguyen investigates systems of control found within the visual codes of this material.
She received her B.A from Brown University, Providence, RI. Nguyen’s work has been featured in exhibitions, screenings, and performances at the Whitney Museum of American Art: Dreamlands Expanded, Parrish Art Museum, and Mana Contemporary (in collaboration with expanded cinema group Optipus); Microscope Gallery, Outpost Artists, Zumzeig Cine, Satellite Art Show, Miami; as well as Ann Arbor Film Festival, Traverse Vidéo, True/False Film Festival, Palace Film Festival, and Transient Visions: Festival of the Moving Image. She received residencies from The Institute of Electronic Arts, Signal Culture, Vermont Studio Center, and Flux Factory. Nguyen has been awarded grants and fellowships from BRIC, NYSCA, and The New York Community Trust.
